FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team had their best offensive output of the season, putting up 19 runs on 19 hits to win their second-straight game 19-10 over the visiting Stony Brook Seawolves.
Mike Caruso had the best game of his collegiate career with two hits, including a grand slam, and three runs scored.
Kevin Radziewicz was another of the seven Stags with a multi-hit game as he recorded two base hits, including the 200th of his career.
The Stags (17-21) scored the first 15 runs of the ball game, putting together a six-spot in the second and a nine-spot in the third.
Drew Blake got the offense started with a solo homer to right to start off the second frame.
Tom Ryan would add a RBI single and
Mitch Williams drew a bases loaded walk. Radziewicz would cap the scoring with a two-run single up the middle for his milestone hit. The senior became the seventh Stag in program history to reach the 200-hit milestone.
In the third, the Stags would bat around before recording their second out. The Stags would load the bases with one out before six-straight players would reach base.
Jack Gethings started the streak with a two-run single. That base knock would be followed by: a RBI single by Williams, a RBI double by Radziewicz, and a RBI single by
Dan Ryan. Caruso woud finish the scoring with his first career grand slam, coming on his second collegiate hit. Caruso would pick up his first career hit in the second inning on a double.
Fairfield would add a
Dan Ryan two-run single in the fourth and a
Drew Arciuolo homer in the fifth to mount an insurmountable lead. Stony Brook (21-17) would not go down quietly as they scored their 10 runs over the last six innings.
Tristan Amone picked up his first collegiate win as he tossed two scoreless innings.
Ian Halpin and starter
David Sacco were the other two Stags to throw scoreless frames.
Every Stag starter tallied at least one hit, with Arciuolo and Gethings leading the squad with three a piece. Williams, Radziewicz, and
Dan Ryan each drove in three runs while Arciuolo, Gethings, and Caruso all scored three times.
The Stags, who have scored 30 runs in their last two games, will look to keep that offensive momentum going in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., when they take on Marist for a three-game series starting Saturday at noon.
