Biography

2019: MAAC Player of the Year…First Team All-MAAC…Fairfield University Male Athlete of the Year…NEIBA Second Team…ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Second Team…MAAC All-Academic Team…Became the first conference Player of the Year in program history after leading the MAAC in hits (88) and triples (seven) while also finishing in the top-3 in average (.364), runs scored (51), and total bases (119)…Broke Fairfield’s career and single season hit record as his 88 base knocks brought his career total to 271. Gethings broke the career mark with a single against UMBC (5/18)…Amassed a 25-game hitting streak, the longest among any Division I player in 2019, after picking up a hit in the season’s first 22 games and dating back to last season. The 25 games was also a new program record, besting the previous by nine contests…Tied the career (11) and single season program record (seven) for triples, evening a 48-year old season record…Struck out just once in a 15 game span which included 52 at-bats and 61 plate appearances (3/16 – 4/3)…Led the team with four base hits in the upset win over No. 22 UConn, the team’s first-ever win over a nationally ranked opponent…Had 28 multiple hit games including six-straight where he hit .636 (14-for-22) (3/23 – 3/30)…Set the program career record for runs scored…Went 5-for-5 in the series opener against Monmouth, coming one hit shy of tying a single game record…Launched a walk-off home run to keep the Stags alive in an elimination game in the MAAC Championships against Monmouth (5/24).

2018: Preseason All-MAAC…MAAC All-Academic Team…One of two Stags to start in all 51 games…Hit .293 for the season with 56 hits, 30 RBI, and a .405 on-base-percentage…Tied a career-high with five RBI in two games during the season. Went 4-for-6 with 5 RBI at North Florida (3/10) and a 3-for-4 outing with a grand slam against Rider (4/8)…Tied for the team lead with 38 runs scored, cross the plate three times in four different contests…Recorded three or more hits in six games…Led the team and finished third in the MAAC with 37 walks, including three drawn at Savannah State (3/13) and at Canisius (3/24)…Reached base four times in the season opener at Georgia Southern with two doubles and two walks (2/23).

2017: All-MAAC First Team…MAAC All-Tournament Team…MAAC All-Academic Team…Had one of the best offensive season in Fairfield history, finishing one hit (76) and run scored (48) shy of the program’s single season record…Led the Stags in average (.355), OBP (.429), walks (28), runs, and hits…Became the first Fairfield infielder since Albie DeSimone in 2008 to be named to the conference’s First Team…Led the Stags with 24 multi-hit games including five-straight to end the season…Batted over .400 in the month of May…Was named to the All-Tournament team for the second-straight season after finishing the three games with a .667 average (8-for-12), six RBI, six runs scored, two doubles, two triples, and a .714 on-base-percentage. ..Tallied a career-high five hits at Lamar (2/25)…Drove in five runs at Siena, the most by a Stag during the 2017 season (4/23)…Had a season-high eight-game hitting streak where he hit an even .500 (16-for-32) with 11 runs scored (4/14 – 4/23).

2016: MAAC All-Tournament Team…Was the Stags’ most impactful offensive rookie leading all first year players with 57 starts and nearly every offensive category: runs (33), hits (51), RBI (20), average (.267), and stolen bases (13)…Earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team after hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a three-hit game against Manhattan (5/26) and in the Championship Game against Siena (5/28)…Recorded a career-high with four hits and three RBI in the win against Rider (4/2)…Tallied 13 multi-hit games including all three games against Delaware (3/18 – 3/19)…One of two Stags to record a hit in both games of the NCAA Tournament.

BEFORE FAIRFIELD: A local product from Wallingford, Conn., Gethings is a 5-10 shortstop who was selected as a 2015 Northeast Region Honorable Mention… Select as Wildcats’ captain in his senior year… Gethings originally played at Xavier and was selected All-SCC in 2013… Excelled in hockey during his high school days, earning a spot on the All-State Third Team at Xavier and played junior hockey for the Connecticut Wolf Pack.
