FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team will host Quinnipiac University for their final match of the regular season. First serve is scheduled for Thursday at 3:00 pm on the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
Last time out, the Stags topped Saint Peter's 6-1 on April 17. Fairfield swept doubles play with victories at all three positions. In the first spot, Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon grabbed a 6-3 win. At the second and third spots, Jeffrey Rodgers/Anthony Caputo and Dylan Appel/Luke Lemieux each won 6-1.
In singles action, the Stags earned five more victories to claim the win over Saint Peter's. Orban topped Daniil Ivanov 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 1. In the No. 2 spot, Solomon won 7-5, 7-5, and in the No. 3 spot Rodgers picked up at 6-0, 6-1 win. The two other wins came from Appel at No. 4 and Lemieux at No. 6.
Quinnipiac is 4-1 in conference play, sitting in second place in the MAAC standings. Most recently, the Bobcats fell to Marist 4-3 on April 16. Quinnipiac won just one doubles match, at No.1 from the duo of Jonas Kuwert and Freddie Zaretsky. The Bobcats then won singles matches at No. 1 from Kei Ezaka, No. 3 from Julian Rozenstein, and No. 4 from Kuwert.
The Stags currently sit in fourth place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings with a 4-2 record in league play heading into the final match of the season.
