2017-18: Went 11-15 in singles matches, including a 5-2 record in MAAC play…Was 9-11 in doubles with a MAAC win at Niagara in the No. 3 spot.
2016-17: As a junior, went 12-16 playing mainly at No. 5 singles, recording the second most wins on the team… Posted a 4-3 record in league play… In doubles play, he began the season paired with Ethan Ammon in the third spot going 4-6 and 2-1 in conference play… Appel then partnered with Tyler Shibles for the remainder of the season, recording a 3-1 mark against the MAAC.
2015-16: In singles action, compiled an 8-16 overall record during the season… Mainly playing at No. 4 singles he posted a 4-5 record…Went 3-3 against MAAC opponents, earning wins over Rider, Niagara, and Saint Peter's…. Playing mostly at No. 3 doubles with partner Luke Lemieux, posted a 7-9 overall record, including 4-2 in MAAC play… Had a three match doubles win streak during MAAC paly…Earning victories over Siena, Saint Peter's, and Quinnipiac.
2014-15: All-MAAC Second Team No. 5 Singles… As a freshman Appel excelled on the court and earned All-MAAC Second Team honors. Playing at the No. 5 singles, he finished with a 5-7 overall record and went 4-2 in conference play. He finished the season strong going 5-4 in his last ten matches. Paired with Luke Lemieux at No. 3 doubles, the two went 5-3 overall and 3-2 in MAAC play.
Before Fairfield: Appel comes to Fairfield after playing two seasons for the Locust Valley, where he served as a team captain during his junior and senior year. In his final campaign as a Falcon, he went 12-3 and led his team to a Conference 3 Championship title. Appel garnered All-State, All-County, and All-Conference accolades while also being voted the team's Most Valuable Player.
Personal: Son of Jocelyn and Stephen Appel… Has four siblings, Madison (19), Parker (16), Karsten (15), and Preston (10)… Father played baseball at Boston University.
