Softball Drops Decision To Yale

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University saw its six-game win streak come to an end this afternoon, dropping a 12-3 decision to Yale University in five innings.

The visiting team took control early by sending 12 to the batter's box and scoring six times in the top of the first inning. Jane Littleton manufactured the Bulldogs' first run by leading off with a single, stealing second, taking third on a ground out, and scoring on a passed ball. Following the ground out, Yale produced five more hits that resulted in five additional runs to send the Stags back to the dugout down six.

Fairfield showed life in its half of the first inning when SJ Mull picked up an infield hit and Anna Paravati earned a walk. With two outs, Sammie Dougherty drove the ball to left center field for a single, her fifth two-out RBI in the last three games, to put the Stags on the scoreboard.

Yale worked a little two-out magic on its own, starting a rally when an error set up the scoring. A walk followed to put two runners on base, setting up Kaitlyn Oikle's two-run double that pushed the advantage to 8-1.

The Stags cut into that lead with two more runs in their half of the inning, loading the bases without the benefit of a hit. Chela Kovar earned a walk and went to second after Quinn McGonigle was hit by a pitch. Sarah Bielski worked out a walk to put three runners on the basepaths, sending Anna Paravati to the plate. The senior laced a single to center field which chased home Kovar and McGonigle, bringing the score to 8-3.

The Bulldogs pushed across three more runs in the top of the third, using three hits and gaining three walks to cause the damage. Yale used a single, a ground out, and a sacrifice fly to bring the three runs home and increase its lead to 11-3.

Yale tallied the last run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of Ava Kang's RBI single that brought Lidia Palys around the bases for the 12-3 final score.

Fairfield used four pitchers in the game with Grace Conrad finishing up the contest, scattering three hits and fanning two in her 1.2 innings of work. Delaney Moquin, Kovar, and Mia Simon also spent time in the pitching circle.

Next up on the docket is a three-game series in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play as the Stags head crosstown for a doubleheader on Saturday and a single game on Sunday against Sacred Heart University.
