Biography
2026: Sammie Dougherty places second among Fairfield freshmen with a .293 batting average which places fourth overall on the team. She is tied for the team lead in RBI with 28, equaling Anna Paravati’s output. Dougherty has a knack for clutch hitting, posting 11 two-out RBI during the regular season which tied for second overall with Cara Kochakian (11) and one behind Anna Paravati (12). She picked up a hit in 27 of her 49 appearances in 2026 which included eight multi-hit games. Dougherty collected nine extra base hits comprised of seven doubles, a triple, and a home run. Her homer was against Big Ten foe Maryland. The infielder led the team with six sacrifice fly balls, accounting for one-third of the team’s total. She is the only Stag to not get caught stealing (four or more attempts), going 5 for 5 this season.
Before Fairfield: Sammie Dougherty joined the Fairfield University softball program after a successful career at North Hunterdon High School. During her four-year run, the infielder finished her time at North Hunterdon with a .364 batting average along with 21 home runs and 81 RBI over her stay. She posted a .404 batting average as a junior with a personal-best 17 extra base hits which included eight doubles, two triples, and seven homers. She earned All-Group 3 Second Team honors as well as berths to the All-Area First Team and the All-Skylands Conference first team.
