Stretch Run Starts with Weekend Visits to Siena, Marist

Fairfield eyes season sweeps of the Saints and Red Foxes

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball will conclude a five-match road trip this weekend with trips to Siena and Marist. The Stags will close out October with a Friday, Oct. 31 matchup with the Saints and then ring in the final month of the regular season against the Red Foxes on Saturday, Nov. 1. Fairfield is seeking a season sweep of both MAAC foes.
 
Fairfield University Stags (17-5, 11-1 MAAC)
  • Fairfield completed the home-and-home sweep of crosstown foe Sacred Heart with a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening at the Pitt Center.
  • With the win, the Stags maintained their one-match lead in the MAAC standings over both Quinnipiac and Niagara.
  • Maya Walker hit a scorching .909 with 10 kills on 11 errorless swings against the Pioneers. She leads the MAAC and ranks 17th in the nation with a .417 hitting percentage this season.
  • As a team, the Stags lead the MAAC in kills per set (13.38), assists per set (12.46), hitting percentage (.273), and blocks per set (2.37).
 
Siena University Saints (11-15, 6-6 MAAC)
  • Siena hosted and defeated Marist on Tuesday to level its MAAC record at 6-6.
  • The Saints lead the MAAC in aces per set, ranking 13th nationally with 1.82 per frame.
  • Siena is also second in the conference behind Fairfield with a .213 team hitting percentage.
  • Individually, Alara Doganyuz and Autumn Willmott rank second and third in the MAAC with 37 and 36 aces, respectively.
  • Doga Diraz is third in the conference with 4.06 points per set.
 
Earlier This Season
  • Fairfield swept Siena at Mahoney Arena on Oct. 11 by set scores of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-20.
  • Fairfield's balanced attack saw nine different players contribute a kill. Mamie Krubally led the effort with 11 kills on .474 hitting from the right side. Across the court, Allie Elliott hit .500 for the second consecutive day, turning in eight kills on 16 errorless swings.
  • The unexpected star of the Fairfield offense was Delaney Moon. The sophomore libero put away a career-best four kills from the back row to go along with 19 digs.
  • Siena was guided by Mary Claire Deacy, who accounted for nearly half of their 31 kills with 14 on .452 hitting.
  • Autumn Willmott led the Saints' defense with 10 digs donning the libero kit.
  • The Stags are 54-17 all-time against Siena and have won 24 consecutive meetings with the Saints.
 
Marist University Red Foxes (7-17, 5-7 MAAC)
  • Marist was on the short side of the Tuesday clash with Siena to fall to 5-7 in MAAC action.
  • The Red Foxes rank seventh in the MAAC with a .167 hitting percentage and are 11th defensively with opponents hitting .269 against them.
  • Sara Dasic paces Marist with 3.16 kills per set on .248 hitting.
  • Cecilia Potter-Pessoa is the defensive leader of the Foxes with 3.00 digs per frame.

  • Fairfield used its best team hitting percentage in a dozen years to fuel an emphatic sweep of visiting Marist on Oct. 10 at Mahoney Arena by set scores of 25-14, 25-19, and 25-15.
  •  The Stags' .443 hitting percentage marks their best single-match clip since hitting .481 in a 3-0 sweep of Hampton on Sept. 7, 2013. Fairfield last hit better than .443 in a MAAC contest on Sept. 29, 2007 – hitting .453 en route to a sweep of Loyola Maryland at Alumni Hall.
  •  Allie Elliott led the high-octane attack with 11 kills on .500 hitting (11-1-20). On the opposite pin, Mamie Krubally posted a .571 mark (10-2-14) and Emma Bortolotti finished at .636 with seven kills on 11 errorless swings. Harlan Wyche was also unblemished in the middle at .625 (5-0-8).
  •  Defensively, libero Delaney Moon led the way with 13 digs and Elliott rounded out a double-double with 11 from the back row.
  • Fairfield's defensive effort limited Marist to a .105 hitting percentage.  Sara Dasic led Marist with 11 kills as the Red Fox to reach double figures.
  • The Stags are 51-10 in the all-time series with the Red Foxes. Fairfield is eying the first home-and-home sweep by either side in the season series since 2021.
 
Around the MAAC
  • Fairfield brings an 11-1 MAAC record into the third-to-last weekend of the regular season. Quinnipiac and Niagara are right behind them at 10-2.
  • The Bobcats, who split the season series with the Stags but own the tiebreaker by virtue of more sets won in the two meetings, will host Iona and Manhattan this weekend.
  • Niagara brings its 10-2 mark to New Jersey for clashes at Rider and Saint Peter's. The one and only meeting between the Purple Eagles and Stags is set for Nov. 7 at Mahoney Arena.
