FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Volleyball heads to Boston this weekend for three matches in two separate venues. The Stags will play Harvard in Cambridge on Friday, Sept. 4 and then head to Northeastern for matches with Holy Cross and the host Huskies on Saturday, Sept. 5.

News and Notes

• Fairfield Volleyball has been selected for two matches to air on SNY as a part of the Metro Conference linear TV package. First, the Stags host Quinnipiac at Mahoney Arena on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. live on SNY. The Nov. 6 road contest at Rider will air on SNY on tape delay at a date and time to be determined. Both matches will also be broadcast live on ESPN+.

 
Fairfield University Stags (1-2)

• Fairfield opened the 2026 season in Knoxville, earning a sweep of Colgate with losses to Morehead State in five sets and a tight three-set clash with #22 Tennessee.
• Fairfield's 25-27, 23-25, 12-25 loss to Tennessee includes the only two sets to date in which the 4-0 Lady Vols have conceded 20 points.
• The Stags' .236 team hitting percentage leads the Metro. Individually, Emma Bortolotti is second in the conference among qualified hitters with a .386 hitting percentage on opening weekend.
• Sophia Nagy hit .457 from the middle in Knoxville, but her 35 swings are two shy of qualifying for the national leaderboard (3.33 attacks/set).
• Three Stags averaged at least 2.00 kills per set on the weekend: Mamie Krubally (2.64), Bortolotti (2.09), and the debuting Aislin Oldach (2.00).
• Harlan Wyche and Bortolotti are second and third in the MAAC, respectively, with 1.27 and 1.09 blocks per set.
• Back row defense was guided by Nicole Macalintal's 2.90 digs per set. Zofia Sykut added 2.36 from the setter spot followed by Julie Dufourt (1.91) and Katelyn Cook (1.82).

 
Harvard University Crimson (0-0)

• Harvard opens its 2026 season on Friday evening. The Crimson were 7-15 overall and 6-8 in the Ivy League last fall.
• Harvard returns three of its top four hitters from last season in Sofia Rossi (3.22 kills/set), Ryleigh Patterson (2.17 on .356 hitting), and Ali Farquhar (2.09).
• Rossi and Patterson were both All-Ivy Honorable Mentions in 2025.
• The Crimson welcome back both setters from their 6-2 offense: Sophia Wei (6.16 assists/set) and Nicole Cornell (4.13).
• Wei also recorded a team-leading 2.20 digs per frame in 2025.
• Harvard leads the all-time series, 8-4. The Stags had won four straight meetings between 1998 and 2002 until a Crimson win at Alumni Hall in the 2018 season.

 
College of the Holy Cross Crusaders (2-2)

• Holy Cross enters the weekend at 2-2. The Crusaders own wins over Siena and New Haven alongside five-set losses to CCSU and Rhode Island.
• The Crusaders finished 2025 at 9-23 overall and 3-13 in the Patriot League. Holy Cross finished eighth in the Patriot last fall and was slotted seventh in this season's Preseason Coaches' Poll.
• Emma Sorensen has paced the Holy Cross attack through four matches with 3.65 kills per set on .257 hitting. Kat Teepe adds 3.24 kills per frame at a .283 clip from the right side. She was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Aug. 31.
• Fairfield is 11-4 all-time against Holy Cross with six straight wins in the series. The teams last met during the 2016 season in Worcester – a 3-0 sweep for the Stags.

 
Northeastern University Huskies (0-2)

• Northeastern began its 2026 with losses to UNC Greensboro and South Carolina in Columbia.
• The Huskies, led by former Fairfield assistant coach Brendan McGourn, were 9-16 overall and 5-11 in the CAA last season. They have been tabbed 7th of 11 teams in this fall's Preseason Poll.
• 2025 All-CAA Second Team pick Emma Rowell led Northeastern last weekend with 3.86 kills per set on .408 hitting as a right side.
• Beatrice Gennari hit .533 from the middle on her way to 2.29 kills per set. Gennari was a Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.
• Fairfield's 3-1 win over Northeastern last September at Mahoney Arena ran the all-time series to 8-7 in favor of the Huskies. The Stags are on a two-game streak overall on the ledger, also earning a win over NU in 2019.
• The last nine meetings in the series took place at Fairfield or on a neutral court. Saturday's matchup will be the first in Boston since 1995.
