Stags Hand Quinnipiac First MAAC Loss With 5-2 Win on Senior Day

Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After honoring the program's four departing seniors, Fairfield University women's tennis handed Quinnipiac their first-ever regular season MAAC loss and first conference loss overall in nearly ten years, defeating the Bobcats 5-2 at the WAC Tennis Courts.

"That was a high-quality match against a high-quality opponent," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We played brave and courageous and that's what is need to play to your potential. I'm really excited for all of our seniors to get a win on senior day as well. They all stepped up today like they have since they arrived at Fairfield. Great team win, but tomorrow we get back to work for Rider Saturday."

Sandra Bozinovic and Laina Campos opened the day for the Stags with a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles, before Quinnipiac drew level in the round after a win in the top flight. Amanda Nowak and Katarina Plumtree teamed up at No. 2 doubles, battling their opponents in a tiebreaker to settle the match and earn the Stags the doubles point, 6-2 (10-5).

In singles play, the Bobcats captured the No. 3 match, before Aina March collected her 11th win of the season with a straight set victory 7-5, 6-1. Once again, Quinnipiac drew level overall with a win at No. 3 singles, but a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 2 duel by Plumtree put the Stags up 3-2. In the top flight, Bozinovic went toe-to-toe with her opponent the length of the match, pulling out a three-set victory 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Stags. Sophia Prinos rounded out the day for the Stags with a three-set win as well, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5), as Fairfield becomes the first conference team to defeat Quinnipiac in the regular season since the Bobcats fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in NEC play on Mar. 30, 2013.

Fairfield women's tennis wraps up the 2022 regular season Sunday when they host Rider at the WAC Tennis Courts. First serve between the Stags and the Broncs is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
