HACKENSACK, N.J. – Fairfield University Men's Basketball scored the first 14 points of Wednesday's non-conference clash at Fairleigh Dickinson and never looked back en route to a 72-54 road victory.
Chris Maidoh led all players with 13 points as the Stags ran off their fifth straight win.
Â
In addition to the five-game winning streak – Fairfield's longest since the 2017-18 season – the Stags have won eight of their last nine since a 0-2 start to improve to 8-3 overall. Fairfield has also won five consecutive road games for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign.
Â
"It was great to see us find another way to win with three-pointers not falling the way they have been," said Head Coach
Jay Young. "We also had another different leading scorer tonight in Chris, and that continues to be a good sign that so many different guys are stepping up and taking the lead offensively."
Â
Through 11 games, Maidoh is the 11th different Stag to hold (or share) the team high in scoring. Fairfield leads the MAAC in scoring at 76.5 points per game despite only one player (
Taj Benning, 11.5 ppg) ranked among the conference's top 20 individual scorers. Maidoh shot 6-for-7 from the field to rack up his 13 points, including several highlight reel dunks. The Stags' junior big man has been a force down low, shooting 82.5 percent (33-for-40) from the field this season on his way to 6.7 points per game.
Â
Benning joined Maidoh in double figures with 12 points and
Jake Wojcik added 11. Maidoh and Wojcik's points came in a reserve role, pacing the Stags to 41 total bench points.
Â
Ten different Stags scored for the second straight game, with
Allan Jeanne-Rose netting eight points,
TJ Long scoring seven,
Supreme Cook and
Jesus Cruz each putting in six,
Caleb Green adding five, and
Makai Willis and
Jason Edokpayi both contributing two.
Â
Cook also pulled down seven rebounds, while Benning and Green each hauled in six to lead Fairfield to a 43-34 advantage on the glass. The Stags' total included 14 offensive boards that led to 18 second-chance points.
In addition to his five points and six rebounds, Green was Fairfield's top facilitator as he tied his season high with seven assists.
Â
Pier-Olivier Racine led Fairleigh Dickinson (0-9) with 12 points and Brandon Rush added 10 for the Knights.
Â
Up next, the Stags wrap up their three-game non-conference road trip on Sunday with a visit to UMass. Opening tip is slated for 1 p.m. with the action set to air live on NESN.
Â
The Minutemen are 6-5 after most recently dropping a 66-57 decision to North Texas last Saturday. UMass is a perfect 5-0 at the Mullins Center.
