PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Fairfield men's tennis wrapped up a successful weekend at the ITA Northeast Regional Championship in Philadelphia.
In Singles competition,
Tyler Shibles began the weekend with a win over William Wibmer of Sacred Heart (6-3, 6-3) in the first round of qualifying before falling in the second round.
Jonathan Olive-Blanco defeated Denton Ho from Cornell in qualifying (6-3, 7-6) before dropping his second match to Jason Hildebrandt of Penn (1-6, 3-6).
Lewis Edwards picked up a win in qualifying as well taking down Yili Zheng of UConn (6-3, 6-7, 7-6). He then fell to Zachery Smith of Penn (2-6, 6-7).
In Doubles competition,
Lewis Edwards and
Tyler Shibles worked their way through the bracket starting with a win in the round of 64 over David Bogatin and Max Hartenstein of Boston University (8-4). They then took down the 9th seeded Niraj Komatineni and Ching Lam of Brown in the round of 32 by a score of (8-6). Their run came to an end in the round of 16 as they fell to Dmitry Shatalin and Kevin Zhu of Penn (5-8).
Kaya Gore and
Jonathan Olive-Blanco also picked up wins in Doubles competition with their first coming in qualifying as they defeated Udayan Bhakar and Giuseppe De Camelis of St. John's (8-3). They then took down Patrick Cachapero and Hielke Moore of Quinnipiac in the round of 64 (8-7). They fell in the round of 32 to Vladislav Melnic and Eero Vasa of Cornell by a score of (6-8).
Fairfield will return to action at the Quinnipiac Hidden Duals on Saturday October 26 through Sunday in Hamden, Connecticut.
