Fairfield Sweeps Niagara to Cap Regular Season

The Stags finish the regular season still in postseason contention

TRUMBULL, Conn. – Fairfield University Men's Tennis capped off the regular season with a 4-0 sweep of Niagara at the Tennis Club of Trumbull. The Stags earned wins in four singles flights to secure the team victory.

With the win, the Stags improve to 6-14 on the season with a 5-3 MAAC record. Fairfield will finish the regular season still in postseason contention and awaits the official tiebreaker ruling from the MAAC following Monday's match featuring Mount St. Mary's and Rider. The conference's top four teams will qualify for next weekend's MAAC Tournament.

With Sunday's contest moved indoors due to weather, the teams began with singles action and played to a clinch. Due to Fairfield's 4-0 victory, doubles matches were not played.

Pol Otin started the scoring with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory at #5 singles. Diego Alcala kept the momentum rolling at #2 by a 6-1, 6-1 count, and Alex Aguiar celebrated his Senior Day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the #6 spot.

The match was sealed by Domagoj Stabek at #4 singles with a 7-5, 6-0 win,

Kacper Krolikowski at #1 and Kostas Kollias at #5 both won the first set of their respective singles matches, which were left unfinished following the Fairfield clinch.

More information surrounding next week's MAAC Championship will be announced when seeding is confirmed by the conference office.
