Stags Swept At UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – The Fairfield University Baseball team was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at UMass Lowell dropping the contests 7-4 and 3-1.
 
Game One: UMass Lowell 7, Fairfield 4
The Stags out-hit the River Hawks 12-9 and tied the game in the sixth, but could not take the lead in the 7-4 final. After UMass Lowell opened the game with two first inning runs, Anthony Boselli cut the deficit in half with a leadoff homer in the second. Boselli also had a hand in Fairfield's second run as his infield single in the sixth brought home Mitch Williams to put the score at 3-2. The Stags would tie the game in the same frame as Kevin Radziewicz scored on a throwing error and wild pitch.
 
The teams would exchange runs in the seventh and eighth inning after the home team took the lead in the seventh on a Steve Passatempo RBI single. Tim Zeng would answer with a RBI single of his home to tie the game in the eighth.
 
The River Hawks would add three runs in the eighth to take a 7-4 lead and the Stags could not find the answer.
 
Dan Ryan led the Stags with three hits on a 3-for-3 showing. Drew Arciuolo and Boselli both added a pair.
 
Trey McLoughlin started for the Stags and allowed just three unearned runs in five innings while striking out five.
 
Game Two: UMass Lowell 3, Fairfield 1
Fairfield fell behind 3-0 and would score their lone run in the fifth. Dan Ryan led off the fifth with a double to left center and would advance to third on a wild pitch. Tom Ryan would bring him in with a RBI single.
 
The Stags would have a runner on in the sixth and seventh innings starting with an Arciuolo triple in the sixth. Dan Ryan would walk in the seventh before Nick Rand ended the game with three-straight strikeouts.
 
Fairfield managed just four hits against Rand but made the right hander work by throwing 112 pitches in seven frames.
 
Nick Grabek and Jason Hebner combined to throw the final 2.1 innings without allowing a run.
 
The Stags will return to the diamond at home against UMass on Tuesday at 2pm.
