Stags Slug Past Pioneers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Mitch Williams had a team-high four hits and scored four runs while Drew Blake added three hits and two RBI as the Fairfield University Baseball team tallied an 11-4 victory as the visiting team at Alumni Diamond. With the victory, the Stags improve to 16-21 on the year while completing a season sweep against crosstown rivals Sacred Heart.

Williams set the tone for the Stags (16-21) in his first plate appearance as the senior blasted a solo shot over the right field fence to give Fairfield a 1-0 lead. The Stags would not trail in the game after picking up three more runs in the third.

Williams got the Stags started again when his RBI single drove in Drew Arciuolo. Kevin Radziewicz and Drew Blake would follow with back-to-back RBI singles to account for the three runs in the frame.

Fairfield blew the game open in the fifth when five Stags would cross the plate. Williams would start the inning with a single and would later score on a Blake run scoring single. The Stags would score a run on a wild pitch and an error before Dylan Reynolds capped the frame with a RBI double.

Trey McLoughlin earned his second-straight victory by surrendering one earned run in five innings while striking out five. Eli Oliphant came in for relief and had a very solid outing, throwing 15 of his first 16 pitches for strikes, and punching out three in three innings.

Sacred Heart (10-24) would belt two solo home runs in the contest, including one in the bottom of the ninth for the 11-4 final score.

Radziewicz also picked up two hits, his 199th of his career. The senior is now one hit shy of becoming the seventh Stag ever with 200 hits.

The Stags are scheduled to play on Wednesday against Stony Brook at 3:30pm.
