Stags Win Fourth-Straight With Victory over Pride

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team won their fourth-straight contest as they pounded out 14 hits and plated nine runs in a 9-3 victory over the Hofstra Pride in midweek action at Alumni Diamond. Eight different Stags recorded at least one hit on the afternoon, with three of those driving in a pair of runs. Kevin Radziewicz was part of the trio with two RBI, including the 100th of his Fairfield career.

Fairfield's (12-16) ERA leader Eli Oliphant got the start for the Stags and battled his way through four innings, with his biggest challenge coming in the first inning. Oliphant would issue four walks in the opening frame to plate the game's first run. However, the sophomore would settle down and tally back-to-back strikeouts to end the Hofstra threat.

The Stags would respond in their half of the first, scoring three runs and taking a lead they would not relinquish. Drew Arciuolo started the game with a single, the 37th-straight game he has reached base dating back to last season, standing as the second longest active streak in the nation. He would later score on a two-run single by Radziewicz, accounting for the milestone for the senior. Drew Blake would cap off the three run frame with his fourth home run of the season.

Blake would drive in the next Fairfield run in the second as he drew a bases loaded walk to put the score at 4-1.

Hofstra would score two runs in the sixth to put the score at 5-3, but the Stags would extend their lead to a comfortable margin with four runs in the seventh. Tom Ryan drove in two runs with a single into the left field gap to plate a couple of runs. Ryan would later score on a Jack Gethings single through the right side.

The Fairfield bullpen made that lead stay with Ian Halpin picking up his second victory of the season by hurling two one-hit innings. David Sacco would follow Halpin and throw the final 1.1 scoreless frames.

Eight Fairfield starters notched a hit in the victory, led by three by Arciuolo, raising his average to a team-high .336.

The Stags will be on the road this weekend when they travel to Wappinger Falls, N.Y., to take on former Associate Head Coach Mike Cole and the Manhattan Jaspers starting with a Saturday noon doubleheader.
