Tennis Swept by Monmouth

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis teams were swept by Monmouth on Sunday afternoon. The men dropped 6-1 while the women fell 5-2 to the Hawks.

The men's team earned one victory in doubles play. At the No. 1 spot, Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon topped Vidit Vaghela and Ale Gomez Estrada 6-4, but the Hawks claimed the wins at the second and third.

In singles action, the Stags got just one win. Anthony Caputo topped Christian Vieira at the fifth spot, 7-5, 6-1. The five other positions all dropped in two sets. Orban fell 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1. Solomon dropped 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2, and Jeffrey Rodgers was beat 6-2, 7-5 in the third spot.

The women saw very similar results as they earned one doubles win. At the No.3 spot, Nicole Aragones and Meghan Ziegler defeated Chioma Gabriel and Rayne Ruoff, 6-2.

In singles play, Ziegler was able to grab a win in the final slot as well. She topped Grace Wills 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6. Cecilia Parla claimed the second singles win for the Stags at No. 5, 6-2, 6-2. Courtney Connors played the only three set match, pushing Kendal Kauffman to a super tie break, 7-5, 4-6, 10-7.

Looking ahead, the men will face Marist on Thursday, April 14. The women will be back on the courts on Monday at Sacred Heart.
