CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis brought a total of four wins home from Cambridge after this weekend's ITA New England Regional Championship.
Regina Herrera and
Anna Neyestani both won their first qualifier to highlight singles play, while the duo of
Sarah Liu and
Lily Malinowski reached the Round of 32 on the doubles courts.
Herrera's singles win came in an in-conference clash as she topped Quinnipiac's Vera Sekerina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. She was clipped in the second round of qualifying by Lauren Kettlewell of Boston University in a third set, 1-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Neyestani picked up a win a tiebreaker in her first qualifier, dropping Bryant's Maria Hernandez Diaz, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (2). She fell to Cameron Didion of UConn in her second qualifying outing, 6-0, 6-0.
Malinowski added a win in the consolation bracket over Quinnipiac's Lilly Black.
In doubles, Liu and Malinowski took down their round of 64 opponents – Paula Casares and Alicia Avarez of Le Moyne – by a score of 8-3. Their run came to a close in the second round with an 8-5 setback to Brown's Abigail Lee and Daniella Benabraham.
The Stags conclude the fall schedule in two weeks with a trip to New York's Southern Tier for the Binghamton Invitational.
