Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – Two doubles teams from Fairfield University Women's Tennis have advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Masters Tournament. The duos of
Maria Gell and
Anna Neyestani and the tandem of
Sophia Harris and
Regina Herrera will return to action at Quinnipiac on Sunday.
In Saturday's action from Hamden, Gell and Neyestani first defeated the Mount St. Mary's pair of Venus Tang and Isabella Pescatore in the Round of 16. The Fairfield duo then knocked off Hana Hofmanova and Savita Bagirathan of Sacred Heart to move on to Sunday.
The #4-seeded team in the tournament, Gell and Neyestani will challenge top-seeded Willow Renton and Caitlin Flower from Quinnipiac in the semifinals.
On the other side of the bracket, Harris and Herrera dropped Jolie Kaiser and Elle Catanzarite from Rider as well as Siena's Selma Bellaouchi and Andrea Vargas. The rookie Stags are set to meet Rider's Ola Irla Bartyzel and Ava Nelson in their semifinal matchup.
The two advancing teams will converge in the MAAC Masters Doubles Championship Match later on Sunday. The winners will go on to represent the MAAC at the ITA Conference Masters next month in San Diego.
On the singles courts, Herrera earned her third win of the weekend as she defeated Viktoria Lorentzon of Marist in the quarterfinals. Her run came to an end in the semifinals against #1 seed Willow Renton from Quinnipiac.
Anna Neyestani saw her bid to repeat as MAAC Masters Champion as the reigning champ fell in the quarterfinals to Rider's Ola Irla Bartyzel.
