Fairfield Tennis Visits Hofstra on Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis teams will travel to Hofstra on Wednesday for a 3:00 pm match with the Pride.

Last weekend, the teams went 1-1 against Niagara on Saturday evening. The men earned a 5-2 win while the women dropped a 6-1 decision to the Purple Eagles.

For the men, they earned the doubles point with victories at all three positions. Brad Orban and Ofir Solomon grabbed the 7-6 win at No.1. Jeffrey Rodgers and Anthony Caputocompeted at the second spot earning a 6-3 win. And in the third position Dylan Appel andLuke Lemieux secured a 6-0 win.

In singles action, Fairfield earned four more wins to claim the victory over the Purple Eagles. Orban claimed a straight set victory at the first position. He was followed by straight set wins for Rodgers, Appel, and Caputo at the third, fourth, and fifth spots.

On the women's side, the doubles team of Nicole Aragones and Sarah Stuhlmann earned a victory at the first spot, 6-1. The two remaining doubles positions fell 6-1 and 6-4 to give Niagara the advantage. The Stags saw just one win in singles play as well. That came at the No.6 spot whereCecilia Parla won in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Hofstra is coming off two wins over conference foe Delaware on Saturday night. The men's side improved to 5-2 this season with a 4-3 victory of the Blue Hens. The Pride grabbed wins at first and second doubles to earn a point. Then they grabbed wins at the No.1, 2, and 4 spots in singles action to secure the victory.

The women's team advanced their overall record to 6-2 with their 5-2 win over Delaware. The Pride earned the doubles point after claiming victories at the second and third spots. In singles play, they claimed wins at the first, second, fourth, and fifth spots to earn the victory over the Blue Hens.

Up next for Fairfield, the men will take on Sacred Heart on Tuesday, March 29. The women will next play at home on Saturday, April 2 against Saint Peter's.
