Women's Tennis Advances To MAAC Championship Match

Stags Edge Niagara, 4-3, And Will Face Quinnipiac In Sunday's Final

WEST WINDSOR, N.J.-A comeback win by Victoria Mandma at number one singles lifted the Fairfield University Women's Tennis Team into Sunday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship Final where they will face top-seeded Quinnipiac University, after the second-seeded Stags edged the third-seeded Niagara University Purple Eagles, 4-3, at the Mercer County Park Tennis Center.  Fairfield heads into Sunday's MAAC Championship match with an 8-13 overall record; while Niagara closes out its 2025 campaign at 11-13.

Mandma lost the first set on Saturday to Niagara's Maria Melo, 2-6, but she stormed back to win her match taking set number two, 7-5, and the deciding third set by a 6-2 score after falling in the first two games of the frame.

Fairfield got off to a good start in Saturday's semifinal by taking the doubles' point behind wins at number two from the duo of Maeve Cassidy and Sarah Liu (7-5) and the tandem of Lily Malinowski and Anna Neyestani at number three (6-4).  Both of those teams took the final three games of the set to earn the victories.  The Stags number one pairing of Maria Gell and Victoria Mandma had their match halted tied at 6-6 after the all-important doubles' point was decided.

Niagara came out swinging in singles' play taking straight-set triumphs in flights two through four to grab a 3-1 lead, but the Purple Eagles were denied a deciding victory, as Lily Malinowski at number five and Maeve Cassidy at number six prevailed with their own straight-set wins, as Malinowski topped her opponent, 6-3, 6-3, and Cassidy cruised, 6-0, 6-4, to set up Mandma's heroics at number one singles.

Quinnipiac advanced to Sunday's MAAC Women's Tennis Final with a 4-0 sweep over fifth-seeded Siena.

Sunday's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship match is slated for a 2:00 p.m. first serve.  The Stags are the defending MAAC Champions, and Fairfield has won a total of 11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championships in program history.
