Stags Share 12th Place at Hartford Hawk Invitational

SOUTH KENT, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's golf team earned a share of 12th place in a 20-team field at the Hartford Hawk Invitational. Freshman Kevin Duncan paced the Stags with a 228 in the 54-hole, two-day tournament at Bull's Bridge Golf Club.

Duncan carded a 76 in all three rounds to finish tied for 49th in the 108-golfer field. The tournament consisted of 36 holes on Monday and an 18-hole final round this morning in South Kent, Conn.

Eric Austin (75-75-80) and Alex Ferrante (77-72-81) each posted a 230 to share 57th place overall. Ferrante's even-par 72 in his second trip through the course was the best round of the tournament for a Fairfield golfer.

Thomas Urciuoli (75-82-80-237) and Conner Beakey (80-77-84-241) also competed for the Stags in their second tournament of the fall.

The University of Connecticut won the event by a comfortable 13 strokes, aggregating an 853 (-11). The Huskies' opening-round 279 was the best team showing at the tournament. Eric Detrich paced the victors with a 208 (67-69-72) to finish second overall at eight strokes under par.

The individual medalist was Kyle Buschmann of Bryant University, who carded back-to-back 68s after an opening round 70 to register a 206 (-10) for the tournament.

The hosts from Hartford – Fairfield's lone MAAC competition at the event – placed seventh at their home invitational with an 879.

The Stags continue their fall slate on Sept. 28-29 at The Club at River Oaks in Sherman, Conn. for the ECAC Championship. Fairfield placed second at the event last year, led by individual medalist Ricky Dowling.
