Rasmus Ditzinger Goes Five Under In Saturday's Final Round To Take First At The Battle at Rum Pointe

Sophomore Wins Tournament By Eight Strokes; Stags Take Second As A Team

BERLIN, Md.-After entering Saturday's final round tied for first place at the Battle at Rum Pointe Tournament following an opening round, four under par, 68, Fairfield sophomore Rasmus Ditzinger pulled away from the rest of the 99-golfer field over the final 18 holes, as he fired a blistering, bogey-free final round 67 (-5) to win the tournament by eight strokes over Iona's Sean Richards and Binghamton's Jack Tebeau.  Ditzinger finished with a two-day total of 135, nine under par; while Richards and Tebeau shot 143 (-1) for the 36-hole event.

After going even par 36 on the front nine, Rasmus sprinted to the top spot on Saturday notching five birdies over the back nine.

As team, the Stags, who entered the final round tied for first place with Iona, finished in second place in the 16-team event finishing three shots behind the host Gaels with a team total of 581 (+5).  Fairfield finished nine shot ahead of third place Dartmouth and outpaced fellow MAAC schools Sacred Heart (6th place), Manhattan (11th place) and St. Peter's and Rider, who tied for 14th.

Tadgh Burke finished just outside the Top-10 at the Battle at Rum Pointe finishing in a four-way tie for eleventh place at +3 (147) for the tournament , shooting a final round 74 (+2) after posting a 73 (+1) on Saturday.

Anthony Naples was the next Stag on the leaderboard finishing at +5 (149) for the 36-holes shooting 78 on Saturday after a 71 on Friday, which placed him in a tied for 21st.

Peter Crowe at +6 for the two days shooting a pair of 75's and Drew Southwell at +13 (79 and 78) rounded out the five scoring Stags for the tournament.

Ben Madden played as an independent down in the Old Line State and went +14 for the two rounds with a 78 on Friday and a final round total of 80.

Up next for the Fairfield men's golf team, the Stags will compete at the LIU Shark Invitational on April 13 and 14 which will take place at the Brookville Country Club in Glen Head, New York.
