HAMPDEN, Mass. – Peter Crowe placed 15th in a field of 84 to lead Fairfield University Men's Golf this week at the UConn Invitational at GREATHORSE. As a team, the Stags slotted fifth on a 14-team leaderboard. The tournament was shortened from 54 to 36 holes due to rain and unplayable conditions on Monday.
The Stags shot a 597 for their fifth-place performance to slot four strokes ahead of St. John's. Fairfield also defeated Metro Conference foes Siena, Sacred Heart, and Merrimack as well as a ledger that included UConn, Holy Cross, and Villanova.
Rhode Island won the event with a 578 to top Boston College by 11 shots. Bryant (592) and Providence (593) also finished ahead of Fairfield on the team leaderboard.
Crowe earned a share of 15th place with a 149, just three stokes back of eighth place on a packed individual leaderboard.
Andrew Bilson added a 151 to tie for 27th place and
Tadgh Burke's 152 merited a share of 30th place.
Ty Ford, who had the low round by a Stag with an opening-round 72, also cracked the top half of the field with a 153.
Jack Carew added a 156 and
Will Carlin – playing as an individual – carded a 157.
Tony Liu of URI led the Rams to the team title which his 137 to beat the field by five strokes. Liu was the only golfer to fire two rounds in the 60s for the week.
Fairfield Men's Golf returns to action next week in Maryland for the Testudo Cup at P.B. Dye Golf Club on Oct. 5-6.
