Stags Look To Build Momentum Against Iona

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With a result in their last two conference matches, the Stags are now trying to build on their momentum. Fairfield, who is unbeaten in five or their last six matches, will have a chance to do just that when they host Iona on Wednesday at 7pm. The Stags have dropped just one match in the series since 2005.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Fairfield is coming off their best performance of the season as they defeated Canisius 4-1 on the road in a match streamed on ESPN3. The four goals were a season-high for the Stags and came off the feet of four different players. Jenny Jacobs continued her hot streak as she netted her second goal in as many matches, Brenna Brown added a goal and an assist, Maggie Walsh notched her first career goal, and Cassidy Boegel closed the scoring with her second goal of the season. Holly Habyan recorded her first career assist on a pass to Jacobs, and Elena Santos contributed two assists, and is now tied for the team lead with three.

SANTOS WITH THE ASSIST: Over the last two games, freshman Elena Santos has dished out a team-high three assists which puts her in some good company. Santos is the first Stag rookie since Jasmin Corniel to record three or more assists in the same season. With her two dishes against Canisius, Santos also became the first Fairfield rookie to record multiple assists in the same game since Nicole Cavallaro tallied four assists against Rider on November 4, 2007.

NEED A SHUTOUT: After recording nine shutouts last season, the Stags are still trying to find their first clean sheet of the 2015 season. Coming into the match, Fairfield is one of only 22 teams in the country, yet to record a shutout. However, of those 23 teams, only Sothern Utah (4-6) has any many victories as the Stags.

FAIRFIELD VS IONA: The Stags own a 17-3-4 record against the Gaels, and have only dropped two games against Iona since 2005. Fairfield defeated Iona 3-0 in New Rochelle, N.Y., last season, which was the program's 250th win.  Four current players have notched a point in the all-time series, with Pamela Coufos and Emily Wieczorek recording an assist. Karolyn Collins had a goal and assist against the Gaels last season, and Molly Moran notched a goal in 2013.

THE IONA SCOUTING REPORT: Iona comes into the match with a 1-11 overall record and have lost nine-straight games. The Gaels are allowing 2.67 goals per game, which is the 18th most in the country. Six different players have scored a goal this season for the Gaels, with Charlotte Stuart, Julia Campagna, and Brianna Hernandez all tied for the team lead with two goals apiece. Last season, the Gaels had the most athletes selected Rookie of the Week in the conference, than any other MAAC team. Stuart, who leads the team with three points had three weekly awards. Taylor Rice got the start in goal in the last thee contests and supports a 2.60 goals against average and a .640 save percentage.

UP NEXT: The Stags will honor the four-member senior class as they celebrate Senior Day on Saturday against Marist at 1pm.
