PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Fairfield University women's golf team stands in 16th place after playing the first round of the Rutgers Invitational on Friday, October 10. The Stags shot a collective first round score of 336 at the Rutgers Golf Course.

Senior Emma Ritzmann paced the Stags, carding an 80 to finish tied for 28th place overall. Classmate Katie Rockwell finished close behind, with an 83, good for 54th overall.

Junior Michelle Applegate carded a first round 85 to finish tied for 70thplace while Olivia Brooks shot an 88 to tie for 88th overall. Rounding out the Stags' effort was Sara Quinn who carded a 93 to finish in 89th place.  

After the first day of competition, Rutgers sits atop the leaderboard with a score of 300. The tournament runner-up is St. Francis (Pa.) with a 306. Closely behind in third is Long Island, with a 307, while Central Connecticut State follows in fourth with a 318. Albany holds the fifth slot, tallying a 320, while Dartmouth is tied for sixth place with Pennsylvania and Lehigh (321). Hofstra, Monmouth, Wagner, and St. John's all tied for ninth place, with scores of 322. Rounding out the effort was Quinnipiac in 14th (327), Sacred Heart in 15th (330), Fairfield (336), and St. Francis College-N.Y. (351).

The Fairfield women's golf team will return to the course tomorrow morning when they compete in the final round of the Rutgers Invitational.
