FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University tennis teams were swept by Hofstra on Wednesday afternoon. The men dropped 5-2 win while the women fell 6-1 to the Pride.
The men’s team jumped out to the lead by earning the doubles point. The Stags saw victories from Anthony Caputo and Jeffrey Rodgers at the No. 2 spot. And Dylan Appel and Luke Lemieux clinched the point with a win at No. 3
In singles action, Appel was the lone Fairfield winner, claiming a 6-4, 6-4 victory in the third position. Brad Orban competed at the first spot pushing Marcus Smith to three sets, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2. Rodgers played at No. 2 singles, dropping a close 7-6, 6-3 match. And at the fourth spot, Caputo fought hard before falling, 7-5, 7-6.
On the women’s side, they did not earn a win in doubles action. Nicole Aragones and Courtney Connors paired up at the first position dropping a 6-1 decision. Gabriella Campos and Cecilia Parla fell 6-3 at the second spot. And Meghan Zimmer and Meghan Ziegler competed at No. 3 falling 6-0.
In singles play, Ziegler earned her first career win at the No. 6 spot in three sets over Ria Shah. Fairfield’s remaining five spots all dropped in straight sets.
Up next, the men's team will take on Sacred Heart on Tuesday, March 29. The women will next play at home on Saturday, April 2 against Saint Peter’s.
