Stags Celebrate Senior Weekend Starting with Friday Doubleheader Against Marist

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will host their final conference weekend series of the season when they welcome the Marist Red Foxes to Don and Chris Cook Field starting with a Friday doubleheader at 12pm. The Stags will also have a special ceremony before the Sunday contest where they honor the 14-member graduating Class of 2026 and also recognize Head Coach Bill Currier during his final weekend at Cook Field. The ceremony will begin at 12:20pm on Sunday.
 
The Stags and the Red Foxes are separated by three games in the loss column with Fairfield placing third in the MAAC standings with a 16-8 mark.
 
Fairfield is led offensively by senior slugger Matthew Bucciero who holds nearly every program record including: home runs, RBI, runs scored, walks, total bases, and triples. This season, he has belted a career-high 16 long balls which leads the MAAC and ranks 40th in the nation.
 
He has homered in seven-straight MAAC series and has nine in his last 16 games.
 
The Stags will honor the 14 members of the graduating class which incudes eight four-year seniors with Bucciero, Luke Nomura, JP Kuczik, TJ Schmalzle, Payten Wawruck, Will Youngman, Kevin Kell, and Jake Memoli. Also graduating transfers of Liam McIlroy, Dom Camera, Joseph Chambers, Zach Stephenson, Luke Spencer, and Matthew Grabmann. The group will be honored with the yearly senior day ceremony on Sunday at 12:20pm.
 
Following the senior day festivities, the program will also honor the most successful head coach in Fairfield baseball history in Bill Currier. In his 15 seasons at the helm, Currier has turned the Stags into a regional powerhouse that saw six MAAC regular season championships, two MAAC tournament titles, and three NCAA Regional appearances including the first At-Large bid in conference history.
 
Currier will retire at the conclusion of this season, finishing a 37-year coaching career that featured over 900 wins that puts him in the top-100 all-time in Division I record books.
