HAMDEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team scored in six different innings and evened up the three-game series with a 11-2 win over Quinnipiac.
Matthew Bucciero led the team with four hits and three RBI. In total, the Stags had six student-athletes with multiple hits with
Zach Stephenson,
Jake Haarde, and
Ryan Paine each tallying three.
The Stags scored in the first four innings starting with a Bucciero RBI single to center in the first.
Nolan Colby would double the score by drawing a bases loaded walk to put the score at 2-0.
Bucciero would tally another RBI in the second on a sacrifice fly while
JP Kuczik brought home another run with a double.
Paine would add the fifth Fairfield run with a first pitch RBI single in the third while Bucciero's double in the fourth put the score at 6-1.
Fairfield's biggest inning came in the eighth when they plated four runs.
Jake Haarde brought home a couple with a single followed by a
Luke Spencer RBI double. Paine completed the scoring with a single to left center field.
On the mound,
Harrison Engle picked up his third-straight victory by going 5.2 frames allowing two hits and one run.
Will Youngman recorded the three-inning save by surrendering just one run.
Bucciero went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI. Stephenson, Haarde, and Paine each had three hits and combined for four RBI and five runs scored.
The two teams will play the rubber game of the series tomorrow at 1pm.
