FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Baseball team will play in their first conference road series in nearly a month when they make the short trip down I-95 to face Quinnipiac for a three-game series. The set will begin with a Friday afternoon game at 3pm followed by a Saturday matchup at 2:30pm and ending in the finale on Sunday at 1pm.
The Stags enter the series tied for second-place in the MAAC standings with Quinnipiac holding the sixth and final spot.
Fairfield has won five of their last six MAAC series including back-to-back sets at home. The Stags still hold one of the conference's best pitching staffs, leading the MAAC in ERA (4.52) which ranks in the top-50 in the nation. The Stags also hold the lowest WHIP in the conference with a 1.55 mark.
Ben Alekson leads the staff with a 2.40 ERA which is second in the MAAC and 32nd in Division I.
On the offensive side,
Matthew Bucciero has already tied a career-high with 15 homers which leads the conference and places top-40 nationally. He has also totaled exactly 100 bases which is the most in the MAAC.
TJ Schmalzle is also in the midst of a career season with nine home runs and a MAAC-best 47 runs scored.
Quinnipiac brings a 20-22 overall record into the contest with an 11-10 MAAC mark. Jack Belcer is the team's leading hitter with a .308 average. Matt Alduino holds the best ERA on the squad with a 1.78 mark in 25.1 innings and 18 appearances.
The Stags will return home for their final conference home series of the season, hosting Marist during Mothers' Day weekend. The program will also celebrate Senior Day on Saturday and honor Head Coach
Bill Currier in one of his final games at Don and Chris Cook Field prior to the game on Sunday.
