ATHENS, Ga. – Rasmus Ditzinger concluded the most dominant individual season in the history of MAAC golf in emphatic fashion on Wednesday at the NCAA Athens Regional. The sophomore shot a 67 (-4) in the final round at the UGA Golf Course to post a 212 (-1) for the tournament – both Fairfield and MAAC records for an NCAA Regional outing.
Ditzinger, who earned his place in the NCAA Athens Regional as the individual MAAC Champion, posted the first-ever score under par at a 54-hole regional by a MAAC golfer. The previous record belonged to a pair of Loyola golfers – Bart George in 2013 and Ryan McCarthy in 2009 – who each carded a +1 on their respective NCAA postseason trips.
With a 67 (-4) in today's final round, Ditzinger topped the 67 on a par-70 course (-3) turned in by Iona's Oisin Devereux in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Pullman (Wash.) Regional. Ditzinger's scorching performance today was also the first round under-par by a Fairfield golfer at a Regional. He moved from a tie for 47th up to join a quintet tied for 34th in the 74-golfer field.
The NCAA Athens Regional Championship went to #13 Vanderbilt, which clipped the #36 Louisville by two strokes. Rounding out the five teams that advanced from the regional into next week's NCAA Championship at #1 Auburn, #24 BYU, and #26 Georgia.
The individual berth in the NCAA Championship was earned by Malan Potgieter from Louisiana, who finished tied for first place alongside Vanderbilt's Will Hartman with dueling scores of 199 (-14).
Including the 2026 MAAC Championship,
Rasmus Ditzinger won four tournaments this season with a total of eight top-three finishes in 11 events, including all five of his spring outings prior to this week's regional. He was previously named the unanimous MAAC Player of the Year and Fairfield Athletics Men's co-Athlete of the Year in addition to an All-MAAC First Team selection.
