ATHENS, Ga. – Rasmus Ditzinger began the NCAA Athens (Ga.) Regional with an opening round 73 on Monday at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Ditzinger is representing Fairfield University Men's Golf on the national stage as the individual MAAC Champion.
Ditzinger's 73 lands at two strokes over par following a round that included four birdies. He is one of five golfers at +2, which is eight shots off the individual pace. After the first day of action, the leaderboard is topped by Auburn's Josiah Gilbert, the #26 ranked golfer in the nation.
On the team ledger, #36 Louisville leads the field with an aggregate 274 (-10). The Cardinals are three shots ahead of #1 Auburn and #13 Vanderbilt. The field at the NCAA Athens Regional includes eight top 50 nationally ranked teams and 26 of the top 150 ranked golfers in the nation.
Rasmus Ditzinger earned his place in the NCAA postseason field as the Mcleod Trophy winner after winning the individual MAAC Championship last month. Ditzinger has won four tournaments this season with a total of eight top-three finishes in 10 events, including all five of his spring outings. He was previously named the unanimous MAAC Player of the Year and Fairfield Athletics Men's co-Athlete of the Year in addition to an All-MAAC First Team selection.
Ditzinger will begin Round 2 of the NCAA Athens Regional on Tuesday morning.
