Men's Soccer Heads To Lafayette For Saturday Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After playing a pair of home games, the Fairfield University men's soccer team will make a quick trip to Lafayette College on Saturday afternoon before returning home for a three-game home stand. The Stags and the Leopards will meet at 2 pm on the Easton, Pa. campus.

Fairfield split their two games at Lessing Field a week ago, picking up a 3-0 win over Monmouth University before suffering its first setback of the year by a 1-0 count versus Brown University. The Stags are enjoying a 2-1 start to their season which began with a season-opening win at Army West Point.

The Stags offense was shut down for the first time against Brown after scoring five goals in their first two games. Two freshmen were responsible for four of the team's goal total, namely Sean Albritton and Alex Vaz. Both newcomers have a pair of goals to their credit with both scoring one goal in each of the first two games.

Another newcomer has been part of Fairfield's stalwart defense with the addition of Evan Chomow. The freshman ranks among the top goalkeepers in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), placing second in save percentage (.857 with 12 saves), tying for first in goals against average (.667), and holding fourth place in saves per game (4.00 per game).

Lafayette has spent a lot of time on the pitch in the early part of the season as the team prepares for its fifth game of the 2025 campaign. The Leopards own a 1-3 overall record which includes a clean-sheet win over Le Moyne on August 27. Samir Dishnica was responsible the game's lone goal, finishing a penalty kick chance in the 60th minute.

Goalkeeper Eric Axtman has played every minute in the Lafayette goal, surrendering four goals in four games for a 1.00 goals against average. He has 14 saves on his ledger which translates into a .778 save percentage. He registered a season-best six saves in the Bryant match, surpassing his Seton Hall total by one stop.

Following this Saturday's road date, the Stags will return home for three straight games, continuing non-conference play against Columbia on September 10. Following that match up, Fairfield will begin MAAC play on Monday, September 15 when it hosts Niagara University for a 2 pm start at Lessing Field. The home stand ends when the Stags meet defending national champion University of Vermont on September 20.
