FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University softball team made the most of playing its first game at home this afternoon, registering 10 hits to set up its 6-1 win over Central Connecticut State University in a non-conference game. The result was Fairfield's fourth straight win.
The Stags never trailed in the game, scoring their first run in their first at-bat.
Delaney Whieldon started the scoring opportunity with a base hit before
Anna Paravati laced a double to right-center field to put two runners in scoring position.
Faith Camilleri brought home Whieldon with a sharp grounder to second base to push Fairfield in front.
The Blue Devils tied the game in their half of the third inning, putting together a pair of doubles from Abby Meehan and KC Machado to knot the score at 1-1.
Fairfield broke open the game in the bottom of the third with four runs off five hits to take command. Whieldon started things off once again with a lead-off home run that cleared the center field fence for a 2-1 lead. Paravati picked up her second double in as many at-bats and moved up a base following a wild pitch.
Ava Armuth drew a walk and swiped second base to put two runners in scoring position, setting up
Christina Minor's RBI single to secure a two-run edge. Minor took second base with another stolen base which
Quinn McGonigle followed with a two-run double to move the score to 5-1.
In the fourth inning, Whieldon reached first base after getting hit by a pitch.
Evelyn Wozniak, who subbed in for Whieldon as a pinch runner, moved to second base following a wild pitch.
Faith Camilleri stroked a single to put runners on the corners, while Armuth drew a walk to load the bases. Minor earned the RBI with a walk to close out the scoring at 6-1.

Chela Kovar, who fanned three and surrendered three hit stepped aside in the fourth inning, placing
Grace Conrad into the pitching circle. The freshman tossed three scoreless innings, surrendering just two hits and two walks during her time.
Peyton Shields finished out the game with a scoreless seventh inning, allowing a hit and a walk.
The Fairfield University softball team will prepare a three-game MAAC series with Manhattan University this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader followed by a single game the next day. The Stags close out their six-game home stand with another conference twin bill against Merrimack College next Tuesday.
