Softball Completes Sweep Of Mount St. Mary's

EMMITSBURG, Md. -- Anna Paravati collected three hits and two RBI while Ava Armuth pitched in with two hits and two RBI, lifting the Fairfield University softball team to a 7-0 win over Mount St. Mary's. With the win, the Stags completed a three-game sweep to begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) unbeaten.

The Stags opened the scoring during their first time at the plate with Charli Warren getting it started by stroking a single to the opposite field. A pair of ground outs allowed Warren to move up two bases, placing her on third base with two outs. The run crossed home plate when Faith Camilleri's grounder was misplayed to make the score 1-0.

After going in order over the next two innings, the Stags' offense clicked once again in the fourth inning. Paravati opened the inning with a single up the middle, yielding to pinch runner Darby Weller after the play. Camilleri drew a walk to put a pair of runners on the base paths before Armuth's infield single loaded the bases. After a strike out, Emma Marchese hit a grounder to third base that allowed her reach first base and bring home the team's second run.

The game remained at that score until the top of the fifth inning when Warren opened the frame with a walk and promptly stole second and third. With one out, Paravati secured an infield hit to shortstop that raised the advantage to three runs. Camilleri became the second base runner when an error placed her on first base. Armuth brought both runners with a triple to right center that brought the score to 5-0.

While the Stags offense was building up a comfortable lead, pitcher Alyssa Weinberg was dominating from the circle. The junior retired the first nine hitters she faced and only allowed one base runner through five innings, a hit batter in the fourth inning. Weinberg lost her no-hit bid in the bottom of the sixth inning when Sophia Schmehl lofted a pitch over Weinberg's head but in front of the middle infielders for a single. She responded to the hit by retiring the next five hitters to earn the complete game victory.

The final two Fairfield runs came in the sixth inning following RBI singles from Warren and Paravati that finalized the score at 7-0.

The Stags will return to action with a midweek game against Central Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Fairfield's first home game of the 2025 campaign. The home stand continues over the weekend when Fairfield hosts Manhattan University for a MAAC three-game series. The weekend includes a doubleheader on Saturday followed by a single game on Sunday.
