FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team was recognized by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) with two major awards and three student-athletes named to ECAC teams. Senior defender
Meghan Carragher was honored with the ECAC Defensive Player of the Year while Head Coach
David Barrett earned the ECAC Coach of the Year. Additionally,
Maddy Theriault and Carragher received ECAC First Team honors and goalkeeper
Katie Wright earned Second Team accolades.
"It's great that the ECAC is acknowledging the hard work and accomplishment of these fine players," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Each of them had great senior seasons and are very deserving of this distinction."
Carragher grabbed another major award for her senior season, along with her MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honor. She also earned her first career ECAC recognition after back-to-back All-MAAC First Team campaigns and a spot on the All-New England Third Team last season. She was the anchor of the Fairfield defensive line that held opponents to just 8.7 shots per game with 3.3 on target.
Theriault capped her historic career with her second-straight MAAC Golden Boot award. Her career also features three ECAC honors, three All-Region selections, and four-straight All-MAAC First Team accolades. She finishes her Fairfield career ranked second with 46 career goals while also placing second with 113 points. In her senior campaign, she led the conference with 15 goals which was the third-most in a single-season in program history.
Wright also picked up a MAAC major award, receiving the MAAC Golden Glove given to the conference's best goalkeeper. Wright became the program's all-time wins leader recording her 53rd career victory this year. She finished third in the conference with a .732 goals against average which was in the top-40 in the country. She also posted four shutouts bringing her career total to 22, the fourth-most in program history.
Coach Barrett led the Stags to the fourth-highest winning percentage in Division I which also included a 16-match unbeaten streak. Fairfield went unbeaten during the MAAC Regular Season with a 10-0-2 mark, becoming first Fairfield team since the 2002 squad. Over the past two seasons, Fairfield holds the highest winning percentage in the country with their 33-5-3 mark.
The Stags were the only team with three selections on the ECAC teams.
