Vaz, Chomow Earn MAAC Weekly Men's Soccer Honors

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Midfielder Alex Vaz and goalkeeper Evan Chomow earned weekly honors from Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after leading the Fairfield University men's soccer team to a 1-0-1 week. The duo guided the Stags to a win over 17th-ranked Marist University and to a 1-1 draw with Iona University last week.

Vaz scored a pair of goals in the team's victory against the nationally-ranked Red Foxes, scoring the game-winning goal and the team's third goal in the 5-1 victory. Both of Vaz's goals came in the first four minutes of the second half, breaking open the game which stood in a 1-1 draw at halftime. The freshman leads the team in scoring with five goals and 10 points, scoring at least one goal in four matches this season.

Chomow put together two outstanding efforts in goal for Fairfield, beginning with his seven-save performance against Marist. He followed up by making eight stops against Iona three days later. For the week, Chomow collected 15 saves which translated into an .882 save percentage along with a 1.06 goals against average. Chomow leads all MAAC goalkeepers with his .806 save percentage while his 1.21 goals against average places him second on the MAAC list.

The Fairfield University men's soccer team, under Head Coach Krystian Witkowski, returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 11 for a match at Rider University. The start time is listed for 4 pm.
