Men's Soccer Closes Out Non-Conference Slate At Yale On Tuesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will play its final non-conference match of the season on Tuesday night as the Stags will make the quick trip to Yale University. The match is slated for a 6 pm start.

The Stags are looking to build on their early season non-conference success, posting a 2-1-2 record against opponents outside the Metro Conference. Fairfield dropped its first non-conference match which also served as the season opener, a 2-1 decision against nationally-ranked Marshall University.

Since that time, the program posted wins against UConn and the University of New Haven while playing Lehigh University and Columbia University to draws. The Stags have enjoyed offensive success in those matches, scoring nine goals in five dates for an average of 1.8 goals per game.

Head Coach Krystian Witkowski has supervised his team to an 8-2-2 overall record and a 6-1-0 mark in Metro play, currently sitting atop of the conference standings. The Stags saw their 10-match unbeaten streak come to an end with its 1-0 loss to Iona University last Saturday, the first match in which the team failed to score a goal.

Freshman Cristiano Carlos added to his team-leading scoring total with an assist in the team's 1-0 win over Marist University earlier in the week, giving the rookie a team-best six assists to go along with his team-high five goals and 16 points. Pipeloore Olanrewaju tallied that goal against the Red Foxes, his third of the season which places his among the five Fairfield student-athletes that have at least three goals on the season.

Goalkeeper Evan Chomow yielded his first goal in more than 230 minutes which helped him post a 0.92 goals against average with a .788 save percentage off of 41 saves. His goals against average is second and his save percentage is third among goalkeepers in the Metro Conference.

Yale brings a 3-6-2 overall record and a 1-1-2 Ivy League mark into Tuesday night's match, holding a 2-1-2 record overall in its last five games. The Bulldogs are coming off a 3-2 win over Harvard University in its last outing as David Leidl tallied the game winner in the 82nd minute.

Leidl ranks second among his teammates with five points, scoring two goals and one assist through his 10 appearances. Sven Meacham, who also scored in the Harvard match, paces the Bulldog offense with one goal and a team-leading seven assists for nine points in 11 games. Josh Linebaugh has spent most of the minutes in the Yale goal, owning a 1.42 goals against average with a .708 save percentage.

Following Tuesday night's match, the Stags will return home for a Saturday matinee against Canisius University. The match will be played at Lessing Field beginning at 1 pm. The Fairfield University men's soccer program will honor its senior class and graduate students prior to the Canisius match.
