Box Score PHILADELPHIA --Â It was a successful weekend for the Fairfield University women's tennis team at the St. Joseph's University Invitational. The doubles team of Lily Malinowski and Anna Neyestani won the title in their bracket whiel, in singles action, Victoria Mandma and Nicolette Loeffler reached the championship finals of their respective draws..
Several Stags also reached championship semifinals and consolations finals in the three-day event that was played in a traditional tournament format.
"We had a very successful weekend in Philadelphia. Everyone is pushing hard and it showed in the results," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "Congrats to Anna and Lily for winning their doubles flight and to Nicolette and Victoria for grinding their way to the finals of their respective flights."
Malinowski and Neyestani won the doubles flight gray bracket with a 6-2 triumph over a team from host St. Joe's.
In the same doubles bracket, the Fairfield team of Victoria Mandma and Lucie Tuttle advanced to the consolation finals.
In the doubles flight crimson bracket, the duo of Maeve Cassidy and Nicolette Loeffler took the consolation crown with a 6-2 win over a team from Bucknell.
In singles play, Victoria Mandma advanced to the singles flight crimson final where she fell in straight sets to Sofiya Snitko of Drexel after she made the final with a thrilling three set win in the semifinal over Abby Platt of Bucknell, 5-7, 6-4, 14-12 (STB).
Teammate Maria Gell advanced to the consolation bracket of the same singles' flight.
In the gray flight of singles, Nicolette Loeffler advanced to the championship finals before falling to Drexel's Anastasia Kavounov, 2-6, 2-6. Teammate Lily Malinowski lost to Kavounov in the semifinals of the bracket.
Lucie Tuttle had a fine weekend in single play for the Stags taking the consolation title in the black flight bracket with an 8-1 victory of Bia Ibrahim of Drexel.
The Stags return to action next weekend at the West Point Invitational hosted by Army West Point on the banks of the Hudson River.
