Box Score FAIRFIELD, Conn.-After opening the weekend with a hard-fought 4-3 road win over Siena on Friday, the Fairfield women wrapped up a busy 24 hours of tennis on Saturday afternoon at home with a an impressive 7-0 whitewash of the visiting Merrimack College Warriors. The Stags are now 5-8 overall on the season; while the Warriors slip to 1-8.
Fairfield grabbed Saturday's doubles point and never looked back getting wins at number two from Laina Campos and Scarlett Hutchinson, 6-4, plus a 6-0 triumph at number three from Katarina Plumtree and Lucie Tuttle.
The Stags blitzed the Warriors in singles action getting straight sets victories from Katarina Plumtree at number one, Nicolette Loeffler at number three, Lily Malinowski at four, Scarlett Hutchinson in the five spot and Lucie Tuttle at number six.
Francesca Karman picked up a three-set, super tiebreaker win at number two singles.
Malinowski's win on Saturday gives her seven consecutive singles triumphs.
Head coach Jeff Bricker is pleased with his team's direction heading into the homestretch of the season, "It was a quick turnaround today but we came out and took care of business. We are starting to play solid tennis at the right time."
The Fairfield women's tennis team continues its busy stretch of action on Tuesday afternoon at home returning to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play hosting Quinnipiac University. First serve at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts is set for 3:00 p.m.
