Box Score EASTON, Penn.-Playing with a roster thinned by several injuries, the Fairfield women's tennis team wrapped up a busy weekend of action playing its second match in 24 hours with a tight 4-3 road loss at Lafayette College. The Stags are now 2-7 overall in 2024; while the host Leopards moved to 9-5 overall.
In singles play on Sunday, freshman Lily Malinowski remained red-hot posting a straight sets win moving up to the second flight.
The Stags other victories at Lafayette in singles came also in straight sets from freshman Nicolette Loeffler at number three plus sophomore Meg Harding at number six.
In doubles, Nicolette Loeffler and Scarlett Hutchinson led the match at number three paring, but it was not completed after Lafayette clinched the point with win at one and two doubles.
"It was a tough day today for the women. We were down a few players with injury, and we didn't play well enough to win. The doubles was the obvious spot where we didn't do well enough. We have a few days to get healthy before our first MAAC match," said head coach Jeff Bricker.
Up next, the women's tennis team opens conference play at Mount St. Mary's this coming Saturday, March 23.
