Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – A thrilling end to senior day sets up a strong start to a three-game homestand for the Fairfield University women's tennis team who defeating Mount St. Mary's 6-1 Sunday in their first appearance of the spring at the WAC Tennis Courts. In fitting fashion, both of the Stags' seniors earned a victory on the afternoon as the squad improve to 2-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play and a perfect 5-0 in home contests which included four indoor matches at the Tennis Club of Trumbull.

"It's great to get a win on senior day!" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker after the match. "Laina and Francesca have been big parts of our program for the past 4 years - it's great to get a win for them today. Overall it was a good team effort to get to 2-0 in the MAAC."

The Stags opened action with a win at No. 2 doubles from Francesca Karman and Lize-Alet Morkel by a score of 6-2, and were followed by Laina Campos and Lucie Tuttle in the third flight, winning by the same scoreline to secure the doubles point for Fairfield. In singles action, Karman would complete a sweep of the day for herself with a straight set win 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 6 duel, one of three Stags to win in consecutive frames. Her doubles partner in Morkel would also score a two-win afternoon for herself as she captured the No. 2 flights with a 6-1 win in the opening set before taking a decisive bout 6-4.

Sarah Liu at No. 3 singles would claim a straight set win 6-2, 6-2 and Katarina Plumtree ran away with her match in the No. 4 spot as she won all but three games in a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Rounding out the wins for the Stags, Aina March bounced back from a first set defeat in the No. 5 duel to win the second 6-2 and a deciding tiebreak 10-5.

With back-to-back wins to open league play, Fairfield women's tennis will look to make it three straight as they continue with their homestand when Siena comes to town Tuesday afternoon. Opening serve against the Saints is slated for 3:00 p.m. from the WAC Tennis Courts.
