LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – Returning to the northeast after a spring break trip down South, Fairfield University men's tennis returns to action this Sunday when they head to New Jersey to kickoff the MAAC slate of matches at Rider. Opening serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
Fairfield has yet to play a match since their three-game stint at the USTA National Campus last week, with included a thrilling 4-3 win over IUPUI, but have had their last two matches postponed or canceled. On the year the Stags have also compiled wins over both Sacred Heart and Lafayette in shutout fashion.
Kaya Gore will lead the squad into singles action with 10 wins in 14 matches this season, dominating for the Stags in topflight matches with a 6-2 record at the No. 1 spot. Behind him sits a trio of players with eight wins apiece including Griffin Schlesinger, Tolunay Sumer, and Kostas Kollias. In doubles contests Keean Shah and Jonathan Olive-Blanco have garnered 11 victories, followed by Gore and Sumer with nine wins together this season. Individually in dual play, Keean Shah paces the Stags with a 16-8 record, followed by Sumer and Kollias are tied for the second-most team lead with 12 victories, with Kollias having picked up at least one win alongside seven different teammates.
At 4-8 this season, Rider picked up a pair of wins in the fall, before opening the fall with a 4-3 win over Colgate, but have lost eight of their last nine matches heading into Sunday's MAAC opener, with the lone win coming in a 7-0 sweep of Wisconsin on Mar. 16.
Following the trip to South Jersey Fairfield men's tennis returns to action next weekend, kicking off the month of April with a pair of matches, their first of the spring from the WAC Tennis Courts. The Stags will celebrate senior day this weekend taking on Siena Saturday before hosting Mount St. Mary's the following day.
