Box Score HAMDEN, Conn. – Alex Aguiar and
Diego Alcala won two matches on Saturday at the MAAC Masters Tournament hosted by Quinnipiac. The pair has reached the semifinals of the doubles bracket, which concludes on Sunday in Hamden.
Aguiar and Alcala opened their day with a 6-4 win over the Quinnipiac duo of Gaurav Mootha and Csanad Nyaradi. The Fairfield tandem went on to the quarterfinal round, where they knocked off th #2-seeded team of Alejandro Abella and Jose Catala Ortiz from Marist.
On Sunday, Aguiar and Alcala will meet Siena's Emilio Zavala Sailnas and Santiago Trujillo in the semifinals. The winner will advance to the MAAC Masters Tournament Final to be held later on Sunday.
The winning team will go on to represent the MAAC at the ITA Conference Masters next month in San Diego.
In other action on Saturday, the Fairfield doubles team of
Luca Benaibbouche and
Kostas Kollias fell in the Round of 16 to Marist's combination of Ian Layton and Gregor Heinemann.
On the singles courts, Kollias saw his run come to an end after two wins on Friday, falling in the quarterfinals to Rider's #3-seeded Matteus Froberg Dahlin.
