Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Alex Aguiar and Diego Alcala Win MAAC Masters Doubles Championship

The duo will represent the conference at the ITA Conference Masters in San Diego

HAMDEN, Conn. – Alex Aguiar and Diego Alcala defeated two teams on Sunday to complete their run through the doubles bracket at the 2025 MAAC Masters Tournament hosted by Quinnipiac. The duo will represent Fairfield University Men's Tennis and the MAAC at the ITA Conference Masters Championship in San Diego beginning Nov. 6.

Aguiar and Alcala are Fairfield's first men's winners in the two-year history of the MAAC Masters. On the women's side, Anna Neyestani won the inaugural singles crown in the fall of 2024 and went on to win her first match on the ITA national stage.

The tandem, which won two matches on Saturday to reach the semifinals, was first challenged by Emilio Zavala Salinas and Santiago Trujillo of Siena. Aguiar and Alcala over came the Saints' pair by a count of 6-4 to reach the final.

The championship match pitted the Stags against Marist's tandem of Gregor Heinemann and Ian Layton, with Fairfield bringing home the 6-3 decision.

Aguiar and Alcala had not teamed up competitively prior to this weekend. Aguiar is a two-time All-MAAC Doubles honoree, while the rookie Alcala – a highly-touted juniors player – is in his first collegiate campaign.

Fairfield Men's Tennis returns to action this coming weekend at the ITA New England Regional Championship at Yale's Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in West Haven.
