Box Score ORLANDO, Fla. – A dominating performance early Wednesday afternoon saw the Fairfield University women's tennis team take down Fairleigh Dickinson 4-3. The Stags opened with a pair of wins to capture the doubles' point before a trio of straight set singles victories to claim the victory over the Knights.
"Another great win for the women over a very good team!" said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We came out with a ton of energy and won the doubles which put us in the driver's seat in singles. Lize-Alet, Katarina, and Aina took care of the rest with great straight set wins. All six competed at a high level."
Fairfield opened the day with a convincing 6-1 victory in the No. 2 doubles' flight by Francesca Karman and Lize-Alet Morkel, the first of back-to-back wins in the round. Laina Campos and Scarlett Hutchinson followed that up with a 6-2 victory in the No. 3 contests to secure the point in the round.
Solo action saw Morkel pick up right where she left off in the previous round, as she took a straight set victory 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles to put the Stags up 2-0. Katarina Plumtree doubled that up in the No. 3 singles duel as she took a 6-2, 6-3 win to put her side on the cusp of winning the match, before Aina March took the succeeding flight 6-2 in the opening set before a 7-6 tiebreak in the second to clinch the match, as Fairfield earns their first win down in Orlando this week, after the end of Tuesday's match against South Dakota was delayed due to rain.
The Stags will return to the courts at the USTA National Campus in Orlando tomorrow to complete the aforementioned contest with South Dakota, with play set to resume Thursday at 8:00 a.m.
