Men's Soccer Travels To Saint Peter's For Wednesday Afternoon Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University men's soccer team will look to build upon their 1-0 win over Iona University last Saturday night when it travels to Jersey City, NJ. for an afternoon match against Saint Peter's University on Saturday. The Stags are playing their final regular-season road contest against the Peacocks and are looking to add their third road win of the season to their record.

  • Fairfield's decision over Iona was the first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) loss of the season for the Gaels, while the Stags secured their first conference victory of the campaign. The game's lone goal came in the 42nd minute when Alex Marin converted a long cross from Daniel Raimondo to break open the scoreless match. For Marin, the goal was the second of the season while Raimondo earned his first assist of the 2023 campaign. Marin currently has five points off two goals and one assist which places third on the team.
  • The Stags scored in the first half during its win over Iona, the sixth game in which they have tallied a first-half goal. Fairfield has shown that it is a second-half team, netting eight of the teams 20 goals in opening 45 minutes.. The team has also posted more corner kicks (35) and shots (102) that it does in the first half (25 and 72) respectively.
  • William Pierce paces the offense with five goals for 10 points while Thomas Drillien, who had scored a goal in three straight games earlier, places second among his teammates with four goals and one assist for nine points. James Anderson came off the bench to finish up the shutout against Iona after starting goalkeeper Victor Nikolov had to come up out of the game midway through the opening half. Anderson made a pair of saves against Iona, giving the senior a .714 save percentage this season which compliments his 1.38 goals against average.

  • The Peacocks enters Wednesday's match with a 2-6-3 overall record and a 1-3-3 mark in the MAAC which includes a pair of draws with Quinnipiac (2-2) and Manhattan (1-1) over its last two outings. This match finishes up the home schedule for Saint Peter's with a road game against Canisius on Saturday and Rider next Wednesday left on the docket.
  • Daniel Larsson leads the team in scoring with three goals and one assist, his last goal coming against Quinnipiac last week. Reiss Skeen (two goals, one assist), Tim Strele (two goals, one assist), and Lex Vaughn (one goal, three assists) are second among their teammates with five points each. The team has tallied two or more goals in four matches this season behind the efforts of this foursome.
  • :Pedro Alves has spent every minute in goal for Saint Peter's, logging 1,170 minutes over his 13 starts this season. He owns a .775 save percentage off 79 saves, averaging just over six saves per contest. He has posted eight or more saves in six matches this season, coming off eight stops in the draw with Quinnipiac.
