BERLIN, Conn. – An impressive final round by the entire Fairfield University men's golf team, saw the Stags starting five shoot a combined -10 for the day, a 15-stroke improvement collectively from the opening round to finish tied for sixth out of 17 schools at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate at Shuttle Meadow Country Club.
Overall, the Stags ended their season opening tournament at five under par, shooting 274 as a team in the final round, after carding 289 on Saturday, where the Stags saw themselves tied for 12th on the leaderboard before their strong showing Sunday afternoon.
Leading the Fairfield Five this weekend was Killian McGinley who ended the weekend tied for 16th in the 90-player field at two under par overall, improving by two strokes from Saturday to Sunday. Two other Stags joined him in the top-25, as both Colin Summers and Zachary Maloy finished tied for 22nd in the field alongside seven other players all at one under par for the weekend, with both players setting new career best rounds Sunday, shooting four-under and two-under par, respectively.
One shot back of that duo was Patrick McCarthy who ended the opening weekend of the season at an even par, as he improved by four strokes on day two to card a 69, two-under par on Sunday. Rounding out the Fairfield Five was Jason Salameno at five-over par and the lone individual for the Stags was Chase Millar.
Fairfield men's returns to action Sept. 19-20 when they head to South Kent, Conn. to compete in the Hartford Hawks Fall Invitational at Bulls Bridge Golf Course.
