BLOOMFIELD, Conn. – A trio of Stags ended the weekend in the top-10 to cap off a huge weekend for Fairfield University men's golf who claimed first place as a team at the Hartford/Wintonbury Hills Invitational.
The Stags ended the round two shots ahead of Rhode Island at plus-11 after two rounds, the second team victory for the team this season. Leading Fairfield to the win was Killian McGinley who shot an even 70 across both days of the tournament, to finish second atop the 40-player field. One shot behind him was teammate Patrick Ryan, who, like McGinley, moved up one spot from his opening round finish to card a 70 Sunday tied for third place for the weekend.
Jason Salameno finished at plus-four across the two days, taking home a share of seventh place, his second top-10 in as many weeks. Improving by three strokes on his opening round score was Colin Summers, who carded a 73 in the final round of the tournament, moving up six spots on the leaderboard, finishing in a tie for 17th. Patrick McCarthy also finished amongst the top-20 in the field, just one shot behind Summers, tied with three other players for 19th place.
A pair of Fairfield golfers competed in the tournament as individuals, with Zachary Maloy improving by five strokes in the final round tied for 28th and Clarkie Carroll shot one better than his opening round tally to finish in 36th place.
Fairfield men's golf is back in action next weekend, Apr. 10-11 at the Abarta Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational in Hellertown, Pa.
