EDISON, N.J. – Ahead of the 2022 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships presented by VisitNJ this weekend, the league announced its end-of-year award winners, with seven players from Fairfield University women's tennis taking home 10 awards.
The accolades included Sandra Bozinovic being unanimously named the MAAC Player of the Year and was also tabbed a unanimous selection as All-MAAC First Team at No. 1 singles after going 20-5 in solo play this season, which included a 6-0 record in conference play. Overall the Stags were represented with a First or Second Team selection in five of the six singles flights, including Katarina Plumtree who was named First Team All-MAAC at No. 2 singles after going 5-1 in that spot against conference opponents.
Aina March was selected Co-First Team All-MAAC at No. 5 singles alongside Niagara's No. 5, and Sophia Prinos did the same at No. 6 singles, earning First Team All-Conference alongside the No. 6 for Quinnipiac. Rounding out the singles awards, Paulina Bakaite garnered Second Team All-MAAC accolades at No. 3 singles.
The Stags also took home First Team All-MAAC at both the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles flights, with Plumtree and Amanda Nowak taking the award at the No. 2 spot with a 6-2 record, including a perfect 5-0 record in conference. In the No. 3 spot, Bozinovic and Laina Campos took home the award after going 4-1 in MAAC play together during the regular season.
Fairfield women's tennis will take on Siena tomorrow morning in the semifinals of the 2022 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships presented by VisitNJ. First serve between the Stags and the Saints is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. from the Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, N.J.
