Box Score TRUMBULL, Conn. – A strong showing in singles play saw the Stags keep pace with Bryant, leaving the doubles point as the difference maker as Fairfield University women's tennis fell to the Bulldogs 4-3 Sunday.
"It's always tough to lose 4-3 matches but I thought we played with a lot of energy and determination tonight," said Head Coach Jeff Bricker. "We competed at a pretty high level in singles – still work to be done, but I feel like we are moving in the right direction."
Fairfield would earn its first point of the match courtesy of Sandra Bozinovic who took her third straight victory in the topflight 7-5, 7-5 and pulled the Stags within a point, 2-1. Katarina Plumtree notched her seventh win of the season in the No. 2 contest 6-1, 7-6 (10-4), but the Bulldogs would take the No. 3 match to maintain their lead.
In the No. 6 dual, Sophia Prinos stepped in and earned her fifth win of the year, a three-set victory, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5. Bryant, however, would pull a victory out of the No. 5 match to clinch the match from the Stags.
Fairfield women's tennis returns to action this Friday when they head down to New York to take on St. John's. First serve between the Stags and the Red Storm is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
